Conference Inspiration

I have always been an individual that loves learning and soaking up so much information but it wasn’t until 2012 where I was really itching to challenge myself professionally and personally. I didn’t want to go back to school; fulfilling my Master’s degree in 2006 was amazing but A LOT of work.

Instead, I wanted to learn directly from other individuals and their stories of success, ups and downs, accomplishments, challenges … ALL OF IT.

The first summit I attended that really propelled me forward to focus on more design was the World Domination Summit (WDS). On it’s website, WDS is described as “a gathering of creative, interesting people from all over the world. Every summer, thousands of people travel to Portland, Oregon for an immersive experience in life, work, and travel.

The weekend consists of three primary activities: main-stage events with keynote speakers that are attended by the entire group, workshops that focus on specific topics, and lots of meetups, parties, and informal engagement. Despite the large number of people who attend, WDS is an introvert-friendly zone, and everyone who participates is a big part of the event.”

I love meeting new people and am wonderful with a lot of one on one conversations but put me in a networking type of situation, I get nervous and would much rather be on my own. I teeter tot between extrovert and introvert. But, WDS was so welcoming and inspiring!

You can read about my first experience here. I actually found out about WDS because I was into following Brene Brown at the time and I REALLY wanted to hear her speak live. After plenty of digging, I found out she was speaking at WDS 2012. Done. I am going.

WDS did a number on me. I attended for two more years. After the third year, I decided to give up my seat and open this wonderful experience to someone else. Since WDS, I made the intention of trying my best to attend 1-2 creative conferences per year for a dose of inspiration. Below you can find conferences that I have attended and loved* as well as conferences that I hope to attend.
